Din nefericire, sunt explicate doar 25 din 28..

*Q Magazine*

Song Descriptions:

Dani California
AK: I wanted to continue the story of DC (who appeared on Californication and BTW). She's the daughter of a Souther cop - a criminal-minded girl who thrives on catastrophe but this time meets her maker.

Charlie
AK: Charlie is your imagination., the sprite that lives in your head. Or it could be a girl or cocaine. Cocaine was not the inspiration, but there's a few people who think it was.

Hey
AK: The key song. It takes me to the place before you aer born and after you die. It's about cutting away that thing you've been depending on but that is killing you.

Turn It Again
John: This was originally called Talking Heads because it reminded me of them. I love this song because Flea plays horns on it. That was his autentic instrument unitl punk rock stole his mind.

C'Mon Girl
AK: I'm looking back at my mad years there. And assessing the cost

Readymade
John: I memorised note for note and in every detail a 10-minute Hendrix solo. He never repeats himself. I'm trying not to repeat him.

Warlocks
John: I like this for the title alone. It sounds like something outta Led Zep or Rush or something. I'm hoping people will say, "What's he got going on with that guitar?". That's what's wrong with bands today. They all want to be Joy Division. Now i love Joy Division. But people need to add something new.

21st Century
AK: When Bush came to power, my solace was, OK, we have an evil empire now. Maybe that's good. Sometimes you have to hit a sensational low before people realised something needs to be done. The line 'Read me a scripture and I will twist it' is sort of a comment on Bush. But also on me.

She Looks To Me
AK: It's a about a girl i met two years ago as i was finishing Scar Tissue. She was destroying herself with drug addiction. I was dating her and it became dysfunctional. In the end i guess i had a paternal love for her.. She was in a treacherously dark place and i wanted to save her.

Tell Me Baby
A semi-rapped old school Chilis song. Kiedis, in full-on Casanova mode asks "Tell me baby, are you lonely?". Given the track's tone a quiet dinner followed by Monarch of the Glen are not on the agenda [hahahahaha!]

Snow (Hey Oh)
AK: A personal favourite. The lyric [featuring the refrain 'I really can't go to that well no more'] says it's never too late to change your life, however fucked-up, dirty and destroyed you are. A fresh layer of snow can always fall and make the dirty ground pure.

Stadium Arcadium
AK: it's about the religious-type feeling you have when the band and audience are one. Like when i went to see Jah Wobble and PiL in 1979. That's my first recollection of the quasi-religious gig experience. And then years later that fucking band tried to steal our bass player!

Slow Cheetah
AK: This is inspired by my ex, Yohanna. She looked like a cheetah. It's about the euphoria of all life experience, even teh horrific stuff.

Desecration Smile
John: It sounds like the Eagles? I don't turn my nose up at the sound of the Eagles. In terms of harmonies, i'd prefer the Beach Boys, though. A lot of people are noting Anthony's religious words but he hasn't been to church as far as i know.

Wet Sand
AK: It's about a guy who believes in divine creation arguing with a girl, a discombobulated train wreck who believes in evolution. they argue and cannot be reconciled.

Hard To Concentrate
AK: I wrote this [a marriage proposal set to music] for Flea becasue he's found a woman he wants to be with forever.

Makes You Feel Better
AK: I don't want to sound like a corny little bitch but we do make people feel better. We do. People stop me all the time and say the Chili Peppers have changed their life. We tap into something high up there and bring it down to people.

She's Only 18
AK: It's about a young girl born in the 80's who doesn't like the Rolling Stones. From then on the story develops totally randomly. It has John's best guitar solo and you can hear me getting audibly excited by what he's doing.

So Much I
John: So Much I reminded me of from the second we did it of my firend Guy Picciotto from Fugazi and his style of guitar playing, even though it was something Flea brought in.

Animal Bar
John: The original title was Neu! because Flea wanted to write something in that [Krautrock] style. I used a modular synthesizer on my guitar. It ended up like Kraftwerk. I did it for Bjork. She said the guitar is boring and no one does anything original. I saw that as a challenge.

If
John: Flea wrote this. I went through a folk period, listening to Steeleye Span, Fairport Convention and Joan Baez, so i played slide guitar on it. The backing vocals are a tip of the hat to Brandy who is the best backing vocals arranger there is.

Death Of A Martian
John: Anthony wrote a song about Martian, Flea's dog who died. I was doing backing vocals for the track when Anthony handed me a note to say his dog Buster had died. It was incrediably emotional. I recently got two cats, Aztec and Maya, so i know how the loss of a pet can feel.

Storm In A Teacup
John: This used to be called Public Enemy. They also inspired Get On Top from Californication, and this is similar. It's a real intense Chili Peppers attack, a taste of the past.

We Believe
John: Some kids from my mom's church came her to sing on that. I'm playing guitar very off-time from the other instruments - again, influenced by [Wu-Tang Clan's] Method Man and GZA. Did i pay the kids? No, they didn't get paid jack!

Hump De Bump
John: The old Chilis song American Ghost Dance has almost the same bass riff. It's sort of Part 2. Flea did horns on it, which is great so i don't feel bad us depriving the world of a great horn player.
